King of Cups in a tarot reading

The King of Cups holds his throne steady on a churning sea, a cup in one hand and a scepter in the other, calm amid the waves. This tarot card represents emotional balance, diplomacy, and compassion guided by a cool head. Upright it marks a wise, supportive figure. Beside Temperance or Justice it shows mastery and fairness; near the Devil or Five of Cups it warns of feelings bottled up.

As advice, stay composed, respond rather than react, and offer steady counsel when others are swept up by emotion. In a timeline or outcome position it promises a situation resolved with maturity, the support of a level-headed mentor, or calm after a storm. Reversed, the King of Cups can turn cold, manipulative, or moody, hiding volatile feelings behind a controlled mask or lashing out unpredictably.
